In a resounding vote, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution urging the Security Council to grant full membership to Palestine, which currently holds observer status. India joined the 143 nations that voted in favor of the resolution, while 25 abstained. Nine nations, including the United States and Israel, cast反对票.

Israel's envoy, Erdan, vehemently denounced the resolution, labeling it a blatant violation of the UN Charter. He accused the resolution of undermining the US veto in the Security Council, asserting that it disregarded the Charter's principles. In a dramatic gesture of protest, Erdan tore apart a copy of the UN Charter during his address to the General Assembly, symbolizing his belief that the resolution violated the Charter's integrity.
